Gulf Challenge Postponed until Next Season

Gulf Challenge organizers have decided to postpone their launch for an additional season. The 2017-2018 season was set to begin in September.

The announcement was made by Abdullah Bakhshab, the former Saudi rally driver, who postponed the start of the first season of the Gulf Challenge after consultations with the relevant federations and sports clubs in the Gulf region. The launch of the tournament, which was scheduled for September, was postponed until next season 2018-2019.

“We look forward to the positive aspect of this postponement,” stated Bakhshab, “which will allow us more time to organize, promote and prepare. It will also help those who are eager to participate in the preparations. So I'm sure to see a strong lineup of participants with the start of the challenge next season.”

The Gulf Challenge was the brainchild of His Excellency Mr Mohammed Ben Sulayem, former Rally Champion of the Middle East and President of the Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE, and his former rival Bakhshab. It was created with the full backing of relevant automobile associations of the Gulf States to a establish a special four wheel drive desert racing series across the Arab region including tours in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.
